Reggie looked at the latest credit card statement he’d received that morning and made a loud tutting sound.
“Problem darling?” His wife asked innocently.
“Most of this is you’re spending.” He scanned the statement again. “In fact, every bloody penny. It’s all ruddy well yours.”
“What’s the big deal? You’ve never mentioned my spending before. I thought we had the money.”
“Oh come on, you know a few weeks ago we lost one of our big accounts and it’s made a hell of a difference to our finances.”
“Yes, but we’re not struggling are we?”
“No, not exactly, not yet, but we’re going to have to be a bit more careful with the pennies.”
“Why didn’t you mention this before?”
“I thought by now we’d have another client, someone with an account that would be significantly bigger than the one we’ve lost, but it’s just not happened yet.”
“And if it comes off, we’ll be ok?”
“Very ok Zoe.” He gave her that confident smile she so loved. “In fact, very, very ok. But we still need to get him and his fellow board members to sign on the dotted line.”
“So why haven’t they? What’s stopping them?”
“I don’t know but I’m certain if he does sign, they’ll all sign. It’s not the money I’m sure, but from what our head accountant Ron Hargrove told me a couple of days ago, there’s a rival company in the background who are putting together a competitive bid. I believe it’s this that he’s waiting for before he’ll give us his decision.”
“And what’s his name, this chap you’re trying to get this account from?”
“Sir Rupert Edwards.” Zoe was suddenly very interested.
“Really, that is very interesting. And he’s the CEO of this company? She asked her husband slyly.
“Yes. Why? Do you know him?”
“No, never heard of him.” She answered him somewhat unconvincingly and Reggie gave her a curios look. “Can’t you give him a little nudge?” She asked, her mind working away.
“Such as what? A bribe or something?” He laughed.
“Yes but more of a something than a bribe, something that will help lubricate the deal you’re after, get the wheels in motion so to speak.”
“A sweetener, like a holiday, a car, bit of real estate, something along those lines, is that what you mean?” Zoe smiled.
“I was thinking more along the lines of good old fashioned sex.”
“Sex?” Her husband exclaimed furrowing his eyebrows.
“Yes, you know, sex. He’s a man. All men are into sex aren’t they? Don’t most of them think through their cocks? I certainly remember you used to.” Reggie smiled.
“That may be. But this man, I’m not sure.”
“Is he married?”
“No, he’s single.”
“And he’s straight?”
“As far as I know, yes.”
“But how would it work?”
“Whoever you chose would have to be extremely convincing, woo him over, persuade him, cajole him into signing.”
“But how on earth would I do that? It’s easy enough to find a woman to sleep with him, but getting them to do what you’re suggesting. Hmm. I’m not sure. I think it’s too much to ask. They just wouldn’t seem convincing enough.” Then as an idea suddenly came to him Zoe’s heart skipped as she saw her husband look at her zealously.
“Perhaps? No on second thoughts, no, I can’t ask you.”
“No, forget it. Please Zoe, forget I mentioned it.”
“What for Heaven’s sake? Please you haven’t told me. What, tell me?” She insisted, feeling moist between her legs, desperately hoping it would be what she wanted to hear.
“Perhaps,” He asked her quietly with embarrassment in his voice, “Perhaps you could be the one?”
“The one? What? Tell me?” She asked him trying her best to hide her excitement.
“The one to persuade him?” She breathed in sharply, trying to make it sound as though she abhorred the idea.
“Reggie. For goodness sake. I’m married to you. It would mean me…” She paused for a second, blushing “It would mean me having sex with him.” She shook her head. “No sorry, I just, I just couldn’t.”
“You’re right. You’re absolutely right. I’m sorry Zoe. I shouldn’t have asked you. Please Zoe, forgive me.” ‘Damn,’ she thought to herself, ‘I’ve blown it.’
Reggie glanced at his watch, missed her sigh. “Shit. We’re going to be late for that dinner date. Let’s sleep on this shall we? Perhaps something else will come to mind.”
“Yes, let’s do that Reggie” She kissed him on the head. “Let’s sleep on it shall we.”
